Last week!
Last week was our biggest week of the year and I am proud to say we did not sell out! Okay, we did sell out of Grandma’s Boy but we were able to stay open the entire weekend. Chocolate-Wasted was a knock-out new flavor and held its own against our major league flavors like Limewire and like any soccer mom, I’m so proud of it. I was so afraid people wouldn’t show up on Sunday because everyone would assume we were sold out but alas, it was a busy day! And I am pleased. (A sentence you will rarely hear from me.)
Our pints freezer repair did not go as I hoped (but exactly as I expected) and now pints are even frostier than they were before. 🫠 We did get in a new 2-door freezer for the back though and I’m really excited to see how that helps increase production.
Also, thank you to everyone who wrote new Yelp/Google reviews! Those reviews really mean a lot to us and help us continue to spread the gospel. (And if you haven’t posted one yet, would ya?)
This week!
This week is pure, unadulterated ice cream weather and we are delivering the goods! But do people go out of town for Memorial Day? Figuring this out will help us determine our pints vs. scoop ratio this week. It would be such a shame to leave Oakland when it’s so gorgeous out but also… three-day weekend. I get it.
Scoops-wise we’ve got a mix of highly-requested classics and rarer favorites. Pints-wise we’ve got a brand new flavor coming out this weekend: Wabbit Season! Nolan came in a few weeks ago with the most perfect carrot cake cupcakes that literally brought a tear to my eye. So we were already talking about turning it into ice cream when one of my most OG customers told me about this carrot caramel she had tried. And that was the the spark that lit the fire. This caramel is the most gorgeous color, texture, and flavor—not too crazy when you think we’re already using carrots in cake for dessert! Sourcing our lactose-free cream cheese can be tough and we could only get enough for a batch or two, hence it going straight to pints.
We also have a flavor we haven’t done in a REALLY long time—Jack Sparrow. It’s the flavor that made one of our servers fall in love with Bad Walter’s back in the Fruitvale days (hi Celeste!!). So that feels really special.
